Workouts

Here's what's coming. Exact loads, standards and scaling for both divisions are still being finalised and will land here closer to September.

Apex Predators Shark Bites
THE START
Sets the tone for the whole day. One workout, all out — no easing in.
Chipper style. Work straight through the list from top to bottom, in order, as a team — you cannot start a section until the one before it is finished. Share the reps between you however you like at each station, but both of you run every 800m together, side by side.
  1. Sandbag Carry — 30 lengths
  2. Run — 800m
  3. Wall Balls — 100
  4. Run — 800m
  5. Walking Lunges — 4 lengths
  6. Run — 800m
  7. Ground to Overhead — 60

30-minute cap. Score = your finish time. Finish before the buzzer and your time is your score — fastest wins. Still going when the cap hits? Your score becomes 30:00 plus one second for every rep you've got left — 10 reps remaining scores 30:10, 60 remaining scores 31:00.
Can't run a leg? It costs you 6 minutes. If a team member can't do one of the three 800m runs, add 6 minutes to your final time for that run — per person who sits it out. One of you skips a run: +6 min. Both of you skip the same run: +12 min. This stacks separately for each of the three runs.

KNOW THE ROUTE
Straight running, straight against the clock — point to point, not a lap.
~4.52km each. Both athletes run the same fixed, marked route separately — one after the other, or however your team organises it. Start at Taumata School, finish at BFT Tauriko. Stay on the footpaths and shared paths shown on the route map — no cutting through roads, grass, carparks or side streets that aren't part of it.

Checkpoints, in order

  1. Taumata School (start)
  2. Bracken Heights intersection
  3. Lake bridge
  4. Lake path
  5. Pyes Pa Bypass shared path
  6. Four Square
  7. Lake loop, back around
  8. Lakes Boulevard
  9. Roundabout — turn left
  10. Overpass
  11. BP
  12. BFT Tauriko (finish)
From BP, the final stretch is deliberately open — take the fastest safe pedestrian route to the studio. Do not run on the motorway carriageway, and roads stay live throughout — cross safely and obey traffic.
No cap. Score = both your finish times added together. You each run, you each get a time, and the two are added for one team score — fastest team total wins. At ~4.52km, a walk/jog should get you round in under 70 minutes — always worth doing rather than sitting it out, since any finish beats the fallback. An athlete who can't run at all is scored 70:00 for their leg, so your team still gets a score for the event.
There is no course briefing on the day. Know this route before you arrive.

PART 1 — ACID BATH
On the erg, in this order — 1000m bike, 500m row, 500m ski.
Exactly halfway, every machine. Both athletes must contribute equally: Partner 1 does the first half, Partner 2 the second — bike 500m/500m, row 250m/250m, ski 250m/250m. No early swaps, no late swaps, no dividing it any other way. Partner 1 gets off right at the halfway mark and Partner 2 finishes it.
6-minute cap, scored on time. Finish it and your time is your score. Clock runs out first? Your score becomes the cap plus however many meters you had left across the three machines — 15m left scores 6:15, 75m left scores 7:15.
2-MINUTE TRANSITION
Once Acid Bath finishes, you get exactly 2 minutes to recover and move to your next station. Death Roll begins the instant that transition ends — be ready.
PART 2 — DEATH ROLL
Pure intensity. Straight AMRAP — 6 minutes, ascending ladder: 2‑4‑6‑8‑10 and up, cycling through three movements each round. Reps completed is your score, more is better. No need to tally the whole ladder yourself — when you enter your score, just say how many full rounds you completed and how many reps you got into the next one, and the site works out the total. Movements are scaled by division:
Apex Predators
  1. Pull Up
  2. Box Jump Over
  3. Handstand Push Up
Shark Bites
  1. Hanging Knee Raise
  2. Box Jump Over
  3. Burpee Bar Hop

Unlike Acid Bath, split the reps however you like. One partner can take a whole movement, you can share it evenly, or swap mid-set — and you can use a different strategy for each movement. The only rule: finish the full prescribed reps for a movement before starting the next one.
Partial rounds still count. Time expires mid-round? Everything you completed up to that point is added to your total. Finish the round of 8, then get through 10 Pull-Ups and 6 Box Jump Overs before the buzzer — that's 16 more reps on the board.
Acid Bath and Death Roll are scored completely differently — one's time, one's reps — so we can't just add the raw numbers. Instead each part is ranked on its own, turned into points, and those two point totals are added together for your Event 3 score.

ONE REP, EVERYTHING ON IT
Both athletes establish a true 1-rep max on bench press and back squat.
All four lifts count. Score = you and your partner's bench and squat 1RMs, all combined.

Scoring

How points
will be awarded

Event 01 and Acid Bath (part of 03) are capped, scored on time — finish inside the cap and your time is your score, fastest wins. If the cap runs out before you're done, your score becomes the cap plus however far you had left to go (reps for Event 01, meters for Acid Bath), so finishers always beat non-finishers. Event 02 is also scored on time but has no cap — both athletes' finish times are simply added together. Death Roll (the other part of 03) is a straight AMRAP — most reps in 6 minutes wins. Event 04 is your combined 1RM total — heavier always wins.

Each event is ranked within your division and category — Apex teams are never ranked against Shark Bites, and mixed pairs are never ranked against same-gender pairs.

First place in an event scores points equal to the number of teams in your field. Second scores one less, and so on down. Ties share the higher placing. Highest total across all four events wins.
