Read once. Then go train.
There are no judges in the tank. That means the standards below are held by you and the team beside you — and that's the whole point.
01 — The code
Every team is paired with a partner team who counts and spot-checks. If a rep is questioned, it doesn't count. No debate, no drama — repeat the rep and move on.
Every team enters as Apex Predators or Shark Bites, in one of three categories: Male/Male, Female/Female, or Mixed. You compete and are ranked only inside that field. Division changes close Friday 11 September.
Unless an event explicitly allows it, work cannot be carried entirely by one partner. Where an event says "split freely", you may divide reps any way you like — but both athletes must complete at least one rep of every movement. Acid Bath (part of Event 03) is stricter than split-freely: each machine is divided exactly in half between partners, with the swap happening precisely at the halfway mark — see the workouts page for the full breakdown.
In you-go-I-go events, the resting partner must be clear of the working area. Synchro reps are the exception: both athletes hit the required position at the same time, or the rep doesn't count.
Standards are listed below and demonstrated at the athlete briefing. A no-rep is not a penalty — it's a rep to do again. Uncounted reps found after the fact are removed from your score.
You may not drop to Shark Bites loads mid-event and stay in Apex. If you can't complete a movement as prescribed, you may continue with the scaled option — your team is then scored in Shark Bites for that event.
In capped "for time" events — First Blood and Acid Bath — a team that doesn't finish is scored at the cap plus however much was left (reps for First Blood, meters for Acid Bath), which ranks them behind every team that finished. First Blood also carries a separate penalty for a run you couldn't do: 6 minutes added to your final time for every athlete who sits out a given run, so one non-runner on one leg adds 6 minutes, two non-runners on one leg adds 12. Open Water has no cap: you both run and your times are added together, with 70:00 recorded for an athlete who doesn't run. Heavy Waters is scored on your heaviest successful lifts.
All equipment is provided and set up in your lane. Do not move bars, boxes or bags between lanes. Personal chalk, tape, grips, belts and shoes are welcome. Bumper plates must be clipped for any lift over 60 kg.
Scores appear on the live leaderboard as they're entered. Query anything that looks wrong with an organiser before the last event finishes. Once the board locks, results stand.
Injured, dizzy, or something doesn't feel right — stop. Tell an organiser. There is no result on this leaderboard worth training through a real injury for. Failing to finish an event is not failing.
No outside competitors. No judges. No pressure from anyone except the person staring back at you in the mirror. Cheer the last team home louder than the first.
02 — Movement standards
Movement-by-movement standards depend on the workouts, which are still being finalised. Once they're locked in, every standard and load will be published here — then demonstrated live at the 7:40am briefing.
Check the workouts page closer to September for full standards and rep ranges, both divisions.
03 — Scoring
Placing points, not raw scores. A great result in one event can't be wiped out by one bad one — but consistency across all four is what wins the tank.
Every event is ranked inside your division and category. Apex is never ranked against Bites; mixed pairs are never ranked against same-gender pairs.
01First place scores points equal to the number of teams in your field. Second scores one less, and so on. Ties share the higher placing. No score entered = zero points.
02Highest total across all four events wins. Teams tied on points share the same placing — both take it, and the next team down slots in after both of them.
